It further bans referencing a transgender person as a \u201c<em>biological man\/male<\/em>\u201d or \u201c<em>biological woman\/female<\/em>.\u201d Instead, reporters should use \u201c<em>biological sex<\/em>\u201d or \u201c<em>biological gender<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Generally, avoid references to a transgender person being born a boy or girl, and opt for phrasing such as \u2018identified at birth as boy\/girl\u2019,<\/em>\u201d the guide stated. \u201c<em>A person\u2019s biology does not take precedence over their gender identity, and such oversimplifications can invalidate the person\u2019s current, authentic gender<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the topic of racism, the guide says, \u201c<em>Unlike Black, white should not be capitalized in any instances.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reporters are also not allowed to use \u201c<em>pro-life<\/em>\u201d or \u201c<em>pro-choice<\/em>\u201d outside of quotes. Instead, they should use \u201c<em>anti-abortion<\/em>,\u201d \u201c<em>abortion rights supporter<\/em>,\u201d and \u201c<em>abortion rights<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They are also instructed to use gender-neutral language like \u201c<em>patients who seek abortion<\/em>\u201d or \u201c<em>people who seek abortions<\/em>,\u201d instead of \u201c<em>women who seek abortions<\/em>\u201d because there may be people who do not identify as female who can get pregnant.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, \u201c<em>late-term abortion<\/em>\u201d should be replaced by \u201c<em>abortion later in pregnancy<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the issue of illegal immigration, reporters are prohibited from using \u201c<em>illegal alien<\/em>,\u201d \u201c<em>anchor baby<\/em>\u201d, \u201c<em>illegal immigrant<\/em>,\u201d or other derogatory words in reference to illegal immigration.<\/p>\n<p>Also, the situation at the southern border of the U.S.A. should not be called a \u201c<em>crisis<\/em>\u201d because \u201c<em>while the sharp increase in the arrival of unaccompanied minors is a problem for border officials, a political challenge for the Biden administration and a dire situation for many migrants who make the journey, it does not fit the dictionary definition of a crisis<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>yogaesoteric<br \/>\nMay 12, 2023<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How news outlets control messaging In January 2022, news outlet Politico issued a style guide for its writers that bans the use of language that could be deemed \u201coffensive.\u201d The style guide contains guidelines on language related to racism, transgender issues, and immigration.
