{"id":139293,"date":"2023-11-21T20:39:14","date_gmt":"2023-11-21T20:39:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yogaesoteric.net\/?p=139293"},"modified":"2023-11-21T20:39:14","modified_gmt":"2023-11-21T20:39:14","slug":"hungary-to-introduce-new-sovereignty-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yogaesoteric.net\/en\/hungary-to-introduce-new-sovereignty-law\/","title":{"rendered":"Hungary to introduce new \u2018sovereignty\u2019 law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hungary\u2019s ruling Fidesz party is set to introduce a bill to the nation\u2019s parliament which will create a special office to monitor activities that \u201c<em>threaten the sovereignty of the country.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new department would be tasked with overseeing the inflow of foreign funding to political parties, media, and public organizations thought to be targeted for influence or manipulation by hostile governments or financial interests, such as Hungarian-American billionaire and serial financier of liberal causes George Soros.<\/p>\n<p><strong>EU state to introduce new \u2018sovereignty\u2019 law<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-139313\" src=\"https:\/\/yogaesoteric.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/hu.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"314\" srcset=\"https:\/\/yogaesoteric.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/hu.jpeg 460w, https:\/\/yogaesoteric.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/hu-300x168.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Gergely Gulyas, the chief of staff for Prime Minister Viktor Orban, declined to give specifics of the new office\u2019s remit on November 14, when he announced the impending submission of the draft legislation, merely stating that it \u201c<em>could probe all sorts of activities that would violate the sovereignty of the country<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When plans to create the new authority were made public in September, a Fidesz party member suggested the measure could apply to \u201c<em>left-wing journalists, quasi-civil organizations<\/em>,\u201d and political parties.<\/p>\n<p>Orban had recently complained at a party meeting that foreign actors were manipulating the levers of Hungarian society through civil society groups and media \u201c<em>financed by Brussels or through the Soros network<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>They have openly said that they want a change of government in Hungary<\/em>,\u201d he said in a speech earlier this year, accusing his enemies of using \u201c<em>every means of political corruption to finance the Hungarian opposition<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Orban and other Fidesz lawmakers have specifically accused the EU of interfering in the country\u2019s political process by withholding \u20ac28 billion ($30 billion) in funds until it fulfills a laundry list of 27 judicial, media, and economic reforms.
