The significance of the vernal equinox: A decrease of night and an increase of day (day then becomes almost equal to night) takes place. This moment of equilibrium symbolizes an ineffable state of harmony that brings about a profound, poignant transformation of external nature as well as a beneficial transformation of our human nature. Everything then awakens to life and tends to come to the surface to enjoy the beneficial, intense and profound subtle energies of spring. After a period of “conservation, during which the restrictions of winter were felt” (at that time in particular, most of the yogis’ diet consisted of seeds, cereals and dairy products), the Easter fast follows, in accordance with Orthodox Christian tradition, which includes this moment of the equinox. It is during this period in particular that a spontaneous process of special purification takes place in the body and in some of our subtle bodies. As a result of this phenomenon, a state of tranquility gradually takes hold in the sphere of consciousness, of psychic balance, of emotional dynamization. From an esoteric point of view, this moment puts us in an ineffable state of resonance with the glorious androgynous condition, with the mystical state of harmony which (under certain conditions) is established in our inner universe between the feminine and masculine natures, between the inner man and the inner woman (between anima<\/em> and animus<\/em>). It’s no coincidence that, especially during this time of nature’s mystical rebirth and regeneration, most animals are mating, plants are budding and, one by one, the seeds of life are being reborn all around us.<\/p>\n

Looking at this moment from an astrological point of view, the Sun then moves from the zodiacal sign of the constellation Pisces to the zodiacal sign of the constellation Aries. We are thus witnessing the end and beginning of a mysterious zodiacal cycle. Man is now, analogically speaking, becoming more and more like a volcano that is about to erupt, to explode. It is for this reason that he often becomes capable, especially now, of accomplishing unprecedented feats. The meditative and contemplative state of Pisces is now replaced by Aries’ spontaneity and desire to assert itself. Especially now, unnecessary sacrifices and excessive idealism are renounced in favor of the exaltation of concrete experiences, of direct actions that are carried out with the idea of concretizing our inner aspirations as best as possible. Man needs now to adapt himself fully to these demands for rebirth, revitalization, awakening to reality, coming out of sleep, and halting the process of hibernation (this stage has both a material and social significance, as well as a spiritual one). Thus, it is necessary for man to adapt himself as well as possible to the mysterious cycles of nature, because (especially now) his resistance is (analogically speaking) like swimming against the current. In some cases, this phenomenon of maladaptation will often give rise to states of tiredness, nervousness, which are often unmotivated – this is generally defined in medicine as “spring asthenia”.<\/p>\n

This mysterious moment of hiatus spontaneously connects us with the huge subtle energies of the beginning, with the optimistic momentum that comes with each new beginning of life. At the same time, this moment of effervescence brings forth a fascinating flowering of vitality. It harmoniously awakens virility and femininity in the human being, giving impetus to the ecstatic experience of the mystical tumult of spring, which makes us spontaneous, courageous, dynamic and active.<\/p>\n
