Investigative journalist Dan Olmsted once posed a simple but uncomfortable question<\/a>: What actually occurs to populations that largely evade modern medicine \u2013 and especially vaccination?<\/em> His trail led him to the Amish in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, U.S.A., a traditionally closed community that largely lives without modern vaccination programs.<\/p>\n

The expectation was clear: If the national statistics were extrapolated to the Amish, there should be around 2,000 cases of autism among them (there are approximately 400,000 Amish worldwide). But Olmsted made a discovery that stunned even experienced scientists: He found only three cases. And all three involved children adopted by the Amish \u2013 children who had already been vaccinated before coming into the community. He found not a single case among Amish children born to the community.<\/p>\n

Vaccinations as the main cause?<\/strong><\/p>\n

These observations were not without consequences. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Secretary of Health and Human Services in the Trump administration, cited Olmsted’s work in a conversation<\/a> with Charlie Kirk, last year. Kennedy spoke of \u201cvery strong evidence<\/em>\u201d that vaccines are one of the main causes of autism.<\/p>\n

Kennedy went even further: He is convinced that autism can be caused by vaccinations. His argument is based on biological mechanisms: stress in the mitochondria, the \u2018powerhouses\u2019 of our cells.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe put stress on mitochondria in many ways \u2013 through the air we breathe, the food we eat, and even the medications our children receive<\/em>,\u201d Kennedy said.<\/p>\n
