Total Energy Surveillance: The Smart Prison Warden.<\/strong>
\nThe ubiquitous smart meters have become the perfect instrument of control. Every household is monitored down to the minute, and deviations from \u201csocially acceptable consumption<\/em>\u201d are immediately penalized. \u201cAnyone who exceeds their quota is automatically disconnected from the grid<\/em>,\u201d reports an engineer from the energy supplier, who needs to remain anonymous.
