{"id":21941,"date":"2019-06-29T21:00:08","date_gmt":"2019-06-29T21:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dev.yogaesoteric.net\/risks-for-your-health-4260-en\/lancet-study-bad-diet-causes-one-in-seven-deaths-in-britain\/"},"modified":"2019-06-29T21:00:08","modified_gmt":"2019-06-29T21:00:08","slug":"lancet-study-bad-diet-causes-one-in-seven-deaths-in-britain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yogaesoteric.net\/en\/lancet-study-bad-diet-causes-one-in-seven-deaths-in-britain\/","title":{"rendered":"Lancet Study: Bad Diet Causes One in Seven Deaths in Britain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"justify\">&#160;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">One in seven deaths in Britain every year is caused by an unhealthy diet, according to a Lancet study.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">\n    <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"5\" alt=\"\" vspace=\"5\" src=\"\/all_uploads\/uploads4\/iunie19\/29.06.19\/20229\/20229_1.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/>\n  <\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Research found that a lack of fruit and fibre is taking the heaviest toll and is fuelling conditions like cancer, heart disease and diabetes.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Study author Ashkan Afshin says that &#8220;This study shows that poor diet is the leading risk factor for deaths in the majority of the countries of the world&#8221; and is &#8220;a larger determinant of ill health than either tobacco or high blood pressure&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n    The Telegraph reports: &#8220;The study by the University of Washington identified lack of wholegrain, nuts and fruits as the worst elements of the British diet.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Too much salt was the fourth biggest dietary risk factor, followed by too little vegetables.<br \/>And the study found that fizzy drinks were only minor contributors to Britain&#8217;s death toll.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">In total, poor diet was found to be responsible for 90,000 deaths in the UK a year &#8211; around one seventh of the 607,000 fatalities annually.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">In Britain, bad eating habits cost almost as many lives as smoking, the study found.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Researcher Dr. Christopher Murray, from the University of Washington, said: &#8220;This study affirms what many have thought for several years &#8211; that poor diet is responsible for more deaths than any other risk factor in the world.<br \/>Our assessment suggests the leading dietary risk factors are high intake of sodium, or low intake of healthy foods, such as whole grains, fruit, nuts and seeds, and vegetables.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The research looked at 195 countries around the world.<br \/>The UK had the 23rd lowest mortality due to diet, with 127 deaths per 100,000 people in 2017.<br \/>This compared to 73rd place in 1990, when bad eating habits killed 345 per 100,000 Britons.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Globally, unhealthy eating was responsible for more than one in five deaths in 2017, fuelling 10.9 million adult deaths.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">This was more than any other risk factor, including smoking, which was associated with 8 million deaths, and high blood pressure, linked to 10.4 million deaths.<br \/>Cardiovascular disease &#8211; such as strokes and heart attacks &#8211; was the biggest contributor followed by cancers and type 2 diabetes.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">&#160;<\/p>\n<p>    <strong>yogaesoteric<br \/>June 29, 2019<br \/><\/strong><br \/>\n    <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#160; One in seven deaths in Britain every year is caused by an unhealthy diet, according to a Lancet study.
