One of the world\u2019s leading organic chemists explained to Tucker Carlson in a recent interview why the theory of evolution is unsupported, in contradiction to the supposed consensus of the scientific establishment.<\/p>\n

James Tour, who was born into a secular Jewish family and converted to Christianity, has had a stellar career as a chemistry and nanotechnology researcher and has been repeatedly recognized as one of the world\u2019s most influential scientists. He pointed out that most public critics of evolution do not have his knowledge of biochemistry, which allows him to critique evolutionary theory from its foundation.<\/p>\n

Tour explained that while scientists have observed what can be called \u201cmicro-evolution<\/em>\u201d transformations, such as modifications to bacteria that make them more resistant to antibiotics, body plan transformations in organisms have never been observed.<\/p>\n

An example of a body plan transformation would be an \u201cinvertebrate, something that does not have a spine<\/em>,\u201d morphing into an organism with a spine, said Tour. \u201cThat never occurs<\/em>.\u201d In order for body plans to transform, there need to be modifications in genetic networks, he noted.<\/p>\n

One of the biggest holes in evolutionary theory he highlighted is the fact that, while people will \u201cpoint to fossils of one creature as a precursor to another creature<\/em>\u201d; fossils of the intermediate \u201ctransformative<\/em>\u201d organisms are never seen.<\/p>\n

Instead of intermediate fossil records, we see the Cambrian explosion, which scientists describe as the sudden emergence of a massive array of complex life.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey just appeared, as if God spoke it into existence. As if God said, \u2018Let these kind form.\u2019 There is an explosion<\/em>,\u201d Tour said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut doesn\u2019t that kind of blow up the theory right there? Because if evolution was real, you would see a gradual ramp-up from a single cell<\/em>,\u201d said Carlson.<\/p>\n

Tour affirmed that there has been no such observed gradual evolution. He also earlier pointed out that no satisfactory biochemical explanation of evolution has been presented. In fact, human beings have not even been able to create any of the four polymer components of life, which include lipids, proteins, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids, using a prebiotic root. In other words, no one has been able to assemble any of these molecules using the \u201cchemicals and techniques that would have been available on earth before life<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t even know how to make the basic building blocks of the building blocks that make us<\/em>,\u201d said Tour. That includes a living cell.<\/p>\n

Carlson then questioned why those who deny evolution are treated as if they\u2019ve \u201ccommitted a moral crime<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

The theory is already very deeply ingrained into published literature, including the educational system, noted Tour. \u201cTextbooks are built around this. This is all people know<\/em>,\u201d he said, adding that it frightens people to question evolution.<\/p>\n

Tour shared that, remarkably, he has had people from two different federal agencies stop by his office \u2013 \u201cbecause they did not even want to put this in an email to me<\/em>\u201d \u2013 to tell him that he can \u201cstop writing proposals<\/em>\u201d because they are never going to get funded.<\/p>\n

\u201cI even had a proposal that got a very high score. And I called the program director and asked \u2018What occurred?\u2019<\/em>\u201d According to Tour, even the director was surprised. Apparently, someone above him had axed the proposal.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause you had questioned the theory of evolution?<\/em>\u201d asked Carlson.<\/p>\n

\u201cCorrect<\/em>,\u201d said Tour. He went on to explain exactly what it was that marked him as an evolutionary \u201cheretic<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Around the year 2000, he received via email a request to sign a statement that said, \u201cWe view random mutation and natural selection as being inadequate to explain the diversity of life. Therefore, further research is warranted<\/em>.\u201d It was carefully worded, he pointed out.<\/p>\n

Later in 2005, he began to ask about why he had not yet been admitted into the National Academy of Science, given his exceptional scientific work.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd they told me, \u2018You\u2019re not going to get into the National Academy of Science because you signed that statement\u2019<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI asked: What are you talking about? That statement? I got this in an email<\/em>,\u201d recounted Tour. \u201cI said: \u2018I\u2019ve done as much as anybody getting into the Academy\u2019<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said a Nobel Prize<\/em> winner replied to him: \u201cNo, you\u2019ve done twice as much. And you\u2019re still not getting in<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tour said the fellow scientists he spoke to \u201cdidn\u2019t even know what it said<\/em>.\u201d When he showed them the statement, they admitted it was \u201ccarefully crafted<\/em>,\u201d but countered that the statement has \u201cbeen used to try to get Creationism into schools<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a big story here<\/em>,\u201d remarked Carlson. \u201cBecause we can judge the importance of something by the reaction to it<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt may be that if macroevolution is not the explanation for what we\u2019re seeing, then there needs to be a Creator. It points to God. Maybe that\u2019s the problem<\/em>,\u201d he observed.<\/p>\n

Tour affirmed, \u201cI think that may be the big problem<\/em>.\u201d To support Carlson\u2019 conclusion, he pointed to the considerable number of people who have written to him sharing that they abandoned their faith because of the evolutionary theory they had learned in high school and college, and after seeing Tour\u2019s content, realize that \u201cthese guys don\u2019t have it figured out<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve had a lot of people say they\u2019ve seen what I have to say and they\u2019re coming back to the faith<\/em>,\u201d said Tour.<\/p>\n
