The European Union is rolling out an age-verification system that requires official ID \u2013 passports or national identity cards \u2013 to prove one is old enough for certain online content and services. Officials have already flagged VPNs as a problem that \u201cneeds closing<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Read that again. A digital identity layer for the internet. Enforced by going after the tools people use to stay private.<\/p>\n

In a European Parliamentary Research Service briefing, VPNs were called<\/a> \u201ca loophole in the legislation that needs closing<\/em>\u201d because they let users protect their privacy by disguising their location.<\/p>\n

This is not consumer protection.
