Trust the science: The phrase has echoed across the world throughout the covid-19 pandemic, a supposed safeguard against questioning what mainstream \u201cscience<\/em>\u201d feeds us \u2013 or even injects into us.<\/p>\n

But as controversial as it seems, basement-dwelling, tinfoil hat-wearing conspiracy theorists aren\u2019t the only ones acknowledging that something could go wrong with mRNA vaccines \u2013 some of the first vaccines authorized for distribution and covid-19 prevention in the U.S.<\/p>\n

This time Dr. Robert Malone \u2013 the inventor of mRNA vaccines \u2013 is considering the idea himself:
\n\u201cWhat occurs to confidence in public health and USG if ivermectin turns out to be safe and effective for covid, and the genetic vaccines turn out to have [significant] safety issues?<\/em>\u201d he asked in a tweet. \u201cThis looks like a very plausible scenario from where I sit<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a separate tweet, Malone went further.
\n\u201cRegarding post-covid genetic vaccine syndromes. I know they<\/em> occur, do not know how severe or frequent,<\/em>\u201d he wrote. \u201cI argue for data transparency from @CDCGlobal @CDCgov and #QALY based risk\/benefit assessment. Data. Science-based Medicine. Honesty. Transparency. Bioethics. Not conspiracy.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

Malone isn\u2019t the only person to question just how safe mRNA vaccines are and to argue for transparency on the issue, but, as the man who pioneered mRNA science, it\u2019s safe to say his arguments pack a punch.<\/p>\n

First, there\u2019s the question every person should ask before being jabbed \u2013 what are mRNA vaccines? These kinds of immunizations work differently than the traditional vaccines with which we\u2019ve become familiar over the years. \u201cInstead of introducing the body to an inactivated or weakened version of a virus or a piece of it<\/em>,\u201d as previous generations of vaccines have done, \u201cthey temporarily turn the body\u2019s cells into tiny vaccine-making factories<\/em>,\u201d Bloomberg<\/em> reported. \u201cThey do this using synthesized versions of something called messenger RNA<\/em> (mRNA), a molecule that normally carries genetic coding from a cell\u2019s DNA to its protein-making machinery.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

The first two covid-19 vaccines authorized (with Emergency Use Authorization) for use \u2013 one from Moderna and the other from Pfizer\/BioNTech \u2014 were produced by this \u201cexperimental<\/em>\u201d science, according to the report. Since the concept is so new, however, individuals reserve the right to be wary. After all, this technology is now inside people.<\/p>\n

But Malone\u2019s wariness coincides with the development of a \u201ctraditional<\/em>\u201d vaccine introduced by the U.S.-based company Novavax that\u2019s now being labeled the \u201cCoronavax<\/em>.\u201d According to TrialSite News<\/em>, this traditional vaccine \u201cdemonstrated 100% protection against moderate and severe disease<\/em>\u201d and \u201c90.4 percent overall efficacy,<\/em>\u201d keeping this \u201cCoronavax<\/em>\u201d competitive with mRNA-based vaccines and superior to the Adenovirus-based Johnson & Johnson vaccine.<\/p>\n

Malone labeled Novavax\u2019s development a \u201c\u2018traditional\u2019 vaccine for those wary of the gene vaccines (mRNA, adenovirus vectored)<\/em>\u201d in a third tweet. Malone first developed mRNA vaccines at the Salk Institute in 1988, according to his webpage. Still, 33 years later, it appears evidence of their safety is nowhere near exhaustive \u2013 especially considering this technology is now so widespread and advocated at every turn.<\/p>\n

An evidence review from the Penn Medicine Center for Evidence-Based Practice at the University of Pennsylvania stated in December that \u201cno large trials of any mRNA vaccine have been completed yet<\/em>\u201d and that \u201cdirect evidence on the comparative safety of mRNA vaccines and other vaccines is lacking.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

The evidence review also stated that \u201cthe only evidence on safety of mRNA vaccines comes from small phase I and phase II trials of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines, with follow-up typically less than two months<\/em>\u201d and that \u201clarger trials<\/em>\u201d of the vaccine were in progress, expected to yield results in mid-2021.<\/p>\n

Of course, this review was published just as covid-19 vaccines first became accessible to the public \u2013 but let\u2019s digest that for a moment. With so little insight into mRNA vaccines at the time their distribution began, shouldn\u2019t scientists have been wary of advocating for the widespread use of this new technology so soon?<\/p>\n

Malone seems to think so.<\/p>\n

Even without advocating for or against the administration of mRNA covid vaccines \u2013 or any covid vaccine, for that matter \u2013 scientists should be open to all possibilities and should ensure that their \u201cconsumers<\/em>\u201d are aware of these possibilities as well.<\/p>\n

Questions like Malone\u2019s have led Big Tech companies to slap free-thinkers with \u201cmedical misinformation<\/em>\u201d warnings and, along with them, a threat to ban these users from their platforms altogether.<\/p>\n

Asking questions about this new technology is obviously highly discouraged.<\/p>\n

And we can safely assume why.<\/p>\n
