Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigan\u00f2 is \u2018persuaded that we\u2019re in a very dangerous time<\/em>.\u2019 Robert Moynihan, editor-in-chief of Inside the Vatican<\/em> magazine and author of a new book about Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigan\u00f2, granted LifeSiteNews <\/em>an exclusive interview during which he spoke about the coronavirus and its devastating impacts on Catholic life around the world.<\/p>\n

Moynihan, a longtime Vatican insider, now lives in Front Royal, Virginia, which is nestled in Virginia\u2019s Shenandoah Valley. Walker Percy, a famous American Catholic novelist, predicted decades ago that the Shenandoah Valley would eventually become \u201ca place of sanctuary<\/em>\u201d in a fallen-apart world. Today, Front Royal and the pastoral countryside surrounding it are filled with vibrant signs of Catholic life: homeschooling families, Catholic schools including Christendom College, cloistered Dominican nuns, standing room-only Latin Masses.<\/p>\n

In the process of writing \u201cFinding Vigan\u00f2: The Man Behind the Testimony that Shook the Church and the World<\/em>\u201d, Moynihan travelled to the undisclosed location where the whistleblower archbishop now lives. He described Vigan\u00f2 as \u201ca man of prayer<\/em>\u201d and \u201cregular routine<\/em>\u201d whose skill at accounting helped him to notice irregularities in Vatican finances when he oversaw parts of them.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a great man for handling meticulous details of a desk job<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe likes the truth, and was in particular oriented toward clarity and transparency in accounting<\/em>,\u201d explained Moynihan. When Vigan\u00f2 pursued to clean up the parts of Vatican finances that he was tasked with overseeing, Pope Benedict XVI was pressured to have Vigan\u00f2 transferred to the U.S., where he then served as apostolic nuncio from 2011 to 2016.<\/p>\n

It was in the summer of 2018, after Vigan\u00f2\u2019s retirement, that the archbishop released his bombshell testimony about sexual abuse and cover-up in the Church, revealing that the now-laicized ex-Cardinal Theodore McCarrick had a long history of sexual predation, and numerous high-ranking prelates, including Pope Francis, knew about it.<\/p>\n

Now, the archbishop writes prolifically about the coronavirus and the Catholic Church\u2019s response to it, as well as other ecclesiastical concerns such as the Vatican\u2019s \u201chealth<\/em>\u201d conference featuring America\u2019s pro-abortion lockdown czar Dr. Anthony Fauci; the ban on private Masses in St. Peter\u2019s Basilica that effectively prevents the Traditional Latin Mass from being offered there because priests are forced to concelebrate Mass instead, which can only be done in the Novus Ordo; our new \u201cpseudo-health regime<\/em>\u201d and the World Economic Forum\u2019s intended \u201cGreat Reset<\/em>\u201d; and Fratelli tutti.<\/p>\n

Vigan\u00f2 is \u201cpersuaded that we\u2019re in a very dangerous time<\/em>,\u201d explained Moynihan. Some people have been disappointed that the archbishop has become so concerned about seemingly worldly matters, like the coronavirus and the worldwide response to it, but Vigan\u00f2 \u201cfeels that there\u2019s a spiritual element behind them<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve even said to him, \u2018We have to be careful, or you\u2019re going to lose the credibility that you\u2019ve built up as a figure in the Church by<\/em> pursueing to deal with these matters outside the Church,\u2019<\/em>\u201d said Moynihan. But he recalled that Vigan\u00f2 responded, \u201cIt\u2019s so important<\/em>.\u201d He said \u201c[there are] many, many people who might die, and there [are] many people who might be enslaved. And the whole fate of the Church, and the teaching of the faith, depends on how we meet this crisis<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n
