Michigan’s bloated voter rolls list nearly 500,000 names, while in swing states Michelle Obama pushes drag queens “Party at the Polls”
The local news organization Bridge Michigan has released information that there are around 500,000 more names on the voter rolls than those who are eligible to vote in the state of Michigan.
There are 8.4 million registered voters in Michigan, around half a million more than the state’s population that is old enough to vote. According to Bridge, this makes Michigan’s voter rolls the most disproportionate in the region and one of the most imbalanced in the entire United States.
The imbalance may have been caused by a voter-approved 2018 proposal that automatically registers those 18 and older to vote when applying for a driver’s license unless they opt out.
According to the report, Michigan plans to remove an estimated 606,800 inactive voters by 2027. By federal law, the state or local clerks can remove voters from the rolls after the state notifies them that they moved to another state, or if election mail sent to their home is returned as undeliverable and after they do not vote in two consecutive federal elections.
The Republican National Committee has already sued the state in federal court over the issue in February, demanding the state trim the rolls. In 2020, the GOP also filed a similar suit, which was dismissed after thousands were removed from the rolls. It did not allege fraud but argued the rolls increase the opportunity for it. The suit also claims that inflated rolls cause political parties to spend more money on mailers and other voter outreach.
Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s spokesperson Angela Benander said the complaints are part of an effort to sow distrust of elections. Benson has been named in multiple lawsuits.
The lawsuits, including three filed in the last month, “lay the groundwork to overturn the results of the election if they don’t like them,” Benander said. “The legal challenges are an attempt to cause people to question the process.”
Since the lawsuit was filed, around 200,000 more people have registered.
Elon Musk and Benson clash over Michigan’s inflated voter rolls
The Secretary of State of Michigan has been blasting Big Tech mogul Elon Musk for “spreading dangerous disinformation” about the integrity of the voter rolls.
According to Benson, Musk has been “falsely claiming there were more voters than citizens in the state.”
On Oct. 18, Musk responded to a post on X, claiming that Michigan has more registered voters than eligible citizens.
On the same day, Benson responded by saying that the state has 7.9 million people of voting age and 7.2 million active registered voters. “Musk was pushing a misleading number that includes 1.2 million inactive records slated for removal in accordance with the law,” she said.
The next day, Musk replied to the thread saying Benson was lying. “Jocelyn Michelle Benson, shame on you for blatantly lying to the public! You only plan to remove the ineligible voters AFTER this election. That necessarily means that there are far more people registered to vote than there are eligible voters,” he accused her.
Benson responded again on the same day, saying “In Michigan, we tell the truth and we follow the law. I suggest you do the same.”
Later, Musk asked Benson if she is “removing the ineligible voters before the election.” She answered with a link to a Michigan government website on voter registration cancellation procedures. “Here’s an explainer of all we do to ensure our voter registration database is accurate,” she said.
Back in August, a political action committee (PAC) backed by Musk was being investigated by the office of Benson.
According to Benson’s probe, the committee has been acquiring detailed voter information from those living in Michigan and other battleground states after people submit their personal data through a section on the PAC’s website that says “register to vote.” The site no longer requires a form to fill out.
Meanwhile, in swing states…….
Michelle Obama pushes “Party at the Polls” initiative promoting Kamala Harris – with the help of drag queens
Former First Lady Michelle Obama is campaigning for Vice President Kamala Harris by deploying drag queens to host performances all over key swing states.
This is part of an initiative called “Party at the Polls,” which will include a series of live performances in swing states, including drag shows, which the Democratic Party seems to believe will motivate more people to cast their vote for Harris, especially in places where she is losing ground to former President Donald Trump.
The Party at the Polls initiative is part of the “When We All Vote” program, which Obama founded in 2018. There will be around 500 Party at the Polls events in multiple states, including key swing states Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. The former first lady herself is expected to headline a When We All Vote rally on Oct. 29 in Georgia.
In Arizona, a Party at the Polls event included performances by members of the “Drag Out The Vote” drag queen group, which urges voters who identify as members of the LGBTQIA+ community to cast their ballots.
In Nevada, another drag show will be held on Oct. 29 featuring Taylor Ratliff, a drag queen who performs under the name “Plasma” and competed in the drag queen TV series “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
Also in Arizona, actor Mark Ruffalo, known for playing superhero The Hulk in Disney’s Marvel movies, is headlining When We All Vote events all over the state. He also joined a “Walk to the Polls” advocacy group attempting to increase first-time voter participation among members of the Navajo Nation.
When We All Vote announced a sweepstakes getting registered voters to volunteer with the group to get people to vote, with the prize being the opportunity to see hip hop artist Cardi B perform at a music festival in the city later this month. The prize package includes two tickets and a travel credit of up to $1,200.
Despite being officially nonpartisan, When We All Vote has been aggressively pushing for early voting and mail-in voting options, especially for first-time voters.
“The election doesn’t start on Election Day – it ends on Election Day,” said When We All Vote Executive Director Beth Lynk. “Mrs. Obama, our co-chairs and ambassadors, and voters will all come together. Together, we will take our momentum and energy to the ballot box and set the tone for the entire country – especially first-time voters – to vote early.”
The initiative is also backed by a whole host of liberal Hollywood and sports celebrities. Many of these notable figures have made past public statements and endorsements that are anything but nonpartisan.
Some notable celebrities that have endorsed Harris include actor Tom Hanks and his wife Rita, actress Kerry Washington and actor and songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda.
