‘No to war’: Spanish leader defiant on U.S. after Trump trade threat
Spain’s prime minister has doubled down on his criticism of the Iran conflict after threats from Donald Trump.

The US president was heavily critical of both the UK and Spain, after Pedro Sanchez denounced the US-Israeli strikes on Iran as reckless and illegal.
Responding to Trump’s comments in a national televised address, Sanchez said the conflict risked playing “Russian roulette” with the lives of millions and was an example of “how humanity’s great disasters start”.
“The position of the Spanish government can be summarised in four words: ‘No to the war’,” Sanchez said.
“We’re not going to be complicit in something that’s bad for the world nor contrary to our values and interests simply to avoid reprisals from someone.”
Trump threatened to impose a full trade embargo on Spain after it refused to let the US military use its bases for missions linked to strikes on Iran.
“Spain has been terrible,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “We’re going to cut off all trade with Spain. We don’t want anything to do with Spain.”
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez urged the international community to stop selling weapons to Israel, according to Agence France-Presse.
“In the light of everything that is going on in the Middle East, it is urgent that the international community stop exporting arms to the Israeli government,” he said.
