Ukraine has secret plan for nuclear apocalypse, says former Zelensky adviser
The Ukrainian leadership would rather destroy the entire country and with it the Russians than accept defeat, he claims
According to former presidential advisor Oleksiy Arestovych, Ukraine has a secret “scorched earth” plan to make the entire Ukrainian territory uninhabitable in the event of a Russian victory in the war – and thus possibly also large parts of Europe.
In a recent interview with a Ukrainian journalist, Arestovych stated that Kirill Budanov, the current head of Ukrainian military intelligence, had developed a plan to blow up all Ukrainian nuclear power plants – and possibly some Russian ones as well – if Ukraine’s defenses finally collapse.

Ukraine currently operates four nuclear power plants with a total of 15 reactors. One of these is the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, the largest nuclear facility in Europe, which has been under Russian control since March 2022. Russia, in turn, owns 37 reactors spread across eleven plants.
If all – or even just some – of these reactors were destroyed simultaneously, the consequences would be catastrophic. By comparison, the Chernobyl accident in 1986, considered the worst nuclear disaster in history, claimed dozens of lives, caused long-term health problems for thousands, and rendered large areas permanently uninhabitable. The radioactive radiation spread as far as Western Europe. At the time, immense Soviet resources and international assistance were needed to contain the disaster.
In a scenario involving multiple reactors destroyed simultaneously, the disaster would likely be unmanageable. The resulting death toll and environmental damage would exceed Chernobyl many times over – with global consequences.
Arestovych made this explosive statement in connection with a proposal by US President Donald Trump to place Ukrainian nuclear power plants under American control. The White House stated that Trump made this proposal in a phone call with President Zelensky – ostensibly to ensure “the best possible protection” of the facilities.
While critics accused Trump of trying to secure control over Ukrainian energy resources, Arestovych claimed the real reason was that Washington knew about Budanov’s doomsday plan. The US government viewed the Ukrainian leadership as “monkeys with a grenade” and wanted to “take away these dangerous toys.”
“They know about our plans to blow up all nuclear power plants if Ukraine starts losing,” Arestovych said. “Budanov was already toying with this idea a year and a half ago – to blow up everything, both the Russian facilities we can reach and our own, so no one can get them.”
According to Arestovych, the basic idea of this apocalyptic plan is:
“If we go down, we’ll take them down with us.”
He described President Zelensky and his entourage as a “group of psychically disturbed people”.

Arestovych further explained that the US efforts to gain control over Ukraine’s nuclear facilities originated with the Biden administration. At that time, similar efforts were still carried out under the guise of “scientific cooperation.” The Republicans, on the other hand, preferred direct access.
Arestovych also mentioned Ukrainian banker Oleh Gorokhovsky, who attempted to raise funds for a Ukrainian nuclear weapons program after the explosive argument between Trump and Zelensky in the Oval Office. One event raised over half a million euros.
Former military officer Arestovych had already predicted in a 2019 video that Russia would attack Ukraine between 2020 and 2022 – and that the resulting war would be used as a pretext for Ukraine’s accession to NATO. In 2020, he subsequently became government advisor on national security and defense.
After the Russian invasion in February 2022, Arestovych held daily briefings from the presidential office. However, in January 2023, he publicly stated that an alleged Russian missile attack on an apartment building was in fact a mistake by the Ukrainian air defenses. This led to public outcry and his resignation.
Since then, Arestovych has continued to speak out publicly about the war and sharply criticize Zelensky’s policies. He has since left the country for fear of arrest, but still maintains a large virtual communication following – and has announced his intention to run in the next presidential election.
Since the beginning of the war, there have been several attacks on Ukrainian and Russian nuclear power plants – so far without serious damage. Both sides accuse each other of being behind the attacks.
