Iranian official: “We are prepared for a long war with the US” – VIDEO
A senior Iranian official has warned that the government is prepared for a long war with the US and signalled that it is willing to continue attacking Gulf countries in an effort to convince President Donald Trump to withdraw from the conflict, the Observer reports.
The warning came in an exclusive interview with CNN in Tehran with Kamal Kharazi, a foreign policy adviser in the Supreme Leader’s office, who ruled out diplomacy for now and said the war would only end through economic issues – signalling a strengthening of the government’s position on the 10th day of the conflict.
“I don’t see any room for diplomacy anymore. Because Donald Trump has cheated others and broken his promises, and we’ve experienced this behaviour in two negotiations – while we were engaged in negotiations, they hit us,” Kharazi told CNN.
“There is no room, unless economic pressure builds up to the point where other countries intervene to guarantee an end to American and Israeli aggression against Iran,” Kharazi said, suggesting that Gulf Arab countries and beyond would need to put pressure on the US to end the war.
“This war has put a lot of pressure – economic pressure – on others, in terms of inflation, energy shortages, so if it continues, this pressure will build up even more, and therefore others have no choice but to intervene,” he said.
