Tulsi Gabbard makes serious accusations: “The Deep State is sabotaging peace in Ukraine”

Targeted intelligence leaks, manipulated media reports, and the stoking of fear: Tulsi Gabbard, the former US Director of National Intelligence, accuses influential figures within the American security apparatus of systematically undermining peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Particularly explosive is her accusation that the EU and NATO are also striving for a direct military confrontation between Washington and Moscow.

The allegations stem from a speech Gabbard gave at the AmericaFest conference in Phoenix on December 20, 2025. Her statements are currently circulating again on virtual communication networks. The Dutch news service NineForNews picked them up on October 13, 2026.

Gabbard explained that she had observed a recurring pattern during the Trump administration’s diplomatic efforts. Whenever negotiators approached a potential peace agreement, influential circles within the so-called Deep State would attempt to obstruct progress.

The methods are by no means new. According to Gabbard, intelligence information is deliberately leaked to selected media outlets to spread specific political narratives. This creates a climate of fear and public uncertainty intended to justify the continuation of the war.

Her accusation against European allies is particularly serious. Gabbard explicitly claimed that the EU and NATO were ultimately aiming for a direct military confrontation between the United States and Russia.

However, she provided no publicly verifiable evidence for this far-reaching accusation in her speech. NATO representatives, for their part, stated that military support for Ukraine serves its defence and is intended to facilitate a lasting peace settlement.

Intelligence information as a political weapon

Gabbard’s criticism is directed particularly at the political use of intelligence findings. According to her, selectively released information could be used to hinder negotiations and influence public opinion in favour of military escalation.

This touches on a fundamental question: Who controls the information on which governments base their decisions about war and peace?

The political influence of intelligence agencies and the leaking of confidential information to the media have been among the most controversial areas of American foreign policy for decades. Gabbard sees this as a mechanism by which powerful actors can influence political decisions without being democratically accountable themselves.

Eisenhower’s warning about the military-industrial complex

In her speech, Gabbard also recalled the farewell address of US President Dwight D. Eisenhower from 1961. He had warned against the excessive influence of the military-industrial complex on government and society.

Gabbard drew a connection between this historical warning and current conflicts. Prolonged wars not only cause enormous human losses and financial burdens, but can also restrict civil liberties.

The economic interests of the arms industry form an important backdrop to this. Billions of dollars in orders for weapons and ammunition generate substantial revenue. However, this alone does not prove that certain companies or intelligence officers have demonstrably sabotaged specific peace agreements.

Peace or further escalation?

Gabbard’s central message is that the American public needs to carefully observe the interests behind political decisions and media portrayals. Her statements are particularly noteworthy because they came from the leadership of the American intelligence apparatus itself. They demonstrate how deeply the debate over the war in Ukraine and the handling of Russia runs, even within the United States.

Gabbard’s crucial accusation: It is not only the warring parties on the battlefield who are hindering peace. She also sees forces at work within the Western power apparatus that profit from a continuation of the war or want to prevent a diplomatic solution.
