Japanese study: Erotically active older men live longer

More than one in six Americans will be 65 or older in 2020, according to the Administration on Aging latest report. The actual number is 55.7 million, which means an increase in the “older” or “baby boomers” population by 15.2 million people over 65 years since 2010, compared to a growth rate of only 2% for people under 65 years of age.

These figures represent a steady increase in the country’s older population since 1900. This number makes those born between 1946 and 1964 the second largest population group in the USA behind the millennials, i.e. those born between 1981 and 1996. By 2030, all “baby boomers” will be 65 years and older. The increase in longevity among the United States population is attributed to many factors, including the benefits of exercise. Now a study from Japan points to another way in which older people, especially men, can fight aging.

Lack of erotic amorous interest is a risk factor

In the Observation study the Faculty of Nursing from Yamagata University states: “Lack of erotic amorous interest appears to be a risk factor for overall mortality in Japanese men over 40 years of age. This finding has an impact on the importance of erotic amorous interest for increasing life expectancy in this population group”.

The study was conducted over a period of nine years and included 20,969 subjects, including 8,558 men and 12,411 women. Dr. Kaori Sakurada led the study and recently said: “Apart from variables such as aging, high blood pressure, etc., which affect longevity, our investigation showed that men, who stated that they had no interest in engaging in lovemaking with women, had a mortality rate that was 1.69 higher than those who were interested.” He continued: “From this, one could conclude that the lack of interest of men in making love to women can affect their general happiness and will to live.” Research also shows that erotic amorous desire can be healthy even without actual lovemaking. Apparently, the mere thought of embracing, kissing and making love to a woman can extend life of men.

Higher mortality among men, not women

The study suggests that lack of erotic amorous interest is related to overall mortality in men, even after adjustment for age, diabetes, high blood pressure, dyslipidemia, smoking, alcohol consumption, BMI, education, marital status, frequency of laughter and psychological stress.

Based on our results, we suggest that lack of erotic amorous interest itself contributes to an increased risk to overall mortality, regardless of the known risk factors in men over 40 years of age. However, it is possible that some important disruptive factors have not been identified or adjusted.”

Sakurada also spoke about previous studies that “had already identified a higher mortality risk in men who were divorced or had lost their partner than in married men.” The lack of a loving wife could lead to an unhealthy lifestyle that could result in “inflammatory disorders”, said Dr. Sakurada. “This study suggests that lack of erotic amorous interest is a risk factor for overall mortality in Japanese men, but not in women.”

The study found that among those who lacked erotic amorous interest, “smoked a significantly higher percentage, drank in the past, was psychically disturbed, laughed relatively rarely and had a lower level of education. For men, the diabetes rate was higher for those who had no interest to make love to a woman than for those who had erotic amorous interest”.

According to this study, erotic amorous interest in men apparently leads not only to a longer life, but also to a healthier life that is more fulfilling.
