NATO’s cover-up of a catastrophic nuclear threat to Europe exposes the despicable game

Europe’s largest civilian nuclear power plant was hit by a direct air attack for the first time – and the Western “news media” didn’t report a word about it, even though the damage could have had catastrophic consequences for all of Europe.

Since Russian forces took over the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) in March 2022, the huge facility has been under repeated drone and missile attacks by the NATO-backed Ukrainian regime.

The most recent attack on May 30, however, penetrated one of the turbine halls in the central part of the power plant with an explosive device – unlike previous attacks which targeted peripheral areas. There were no injuries and no radioactive fallout, according to the Russian state-owned nuclear energy company Rosatom.

However, Rosatom chief Alexei Likhachev warned that more severe damage to the turbine hall would have posed a real risk of cooling system failure, which could have caused a nuclear reactor meltdown – a continental radiation catastrophe of a magnitude reminiscent of the Chernobyl crisis of 1986.

This game of nuclear blackmail and terrorism by the Ukrainian regime is not new. For four years, Western media and UN nuclear inspectors have been staging a farce by pretending that the perpetrator of the attacks on the ZNPP is unknown. They are spreading ludicrous Ukrainian claims that Russian forces are opening artillery fire on a nuclear power plant controlled by the Russians themselves.

The Ukrainian puppet president Volodymyr Zelenskyy at one point had the audacity to claim that the attacks on the ZNPP power plant would cease if Russia relinquished control of the facility. This is the same regime that has engaged in energy blackmail against EU member states – Hungary and Slovakia – by threatening to block oil pipelines to these countries if they did not lift their vetoes against granting billions in loans to Ukraine.

Even more reprehensible is that the Western media are no longer even perpetuating the farce. The Kyiv regime struck a key unit of the ZNPP, thereby risking a nuclear catastrophe for Europe – and the media didn’t report a word about it, not even in a distorted form attempting to shift the blame to the Russian side.

The criminal recklessness cannot be overstated. A nuclear power plant is deliberately attacked by a corrupt regime with NATO weapons and undoubtedly NATO targeting intelligence, putting millions of people across Europe in grave danger – and the Western media cover it up.

Of course, this shouldn’t surprise us. These are the same media outlets that covered up the neo-Nazi nature of the Kyiv regime, its obscene corruption and embezzlement of Western taxpayers’ money, as well as its deliberate terrorist attacks on Russian civilians.

On May 22, one of the worst crimes occurred: the deliberate air attack by the NATO-backed regime on a student dormitory in Starobelsk, Luhansk, which killed 21 students – most of them teenage girls.

All corporate-controlled American and European media outlets barely reported on the massacre. To name just two: CNN and the BBC declined an invitation from the Russian government to join other international media representatives and witness the horror firsthand. Many of the young victims died under rubble created by repeated waves of explosions. The evidence at the scene confirmed that the college had been deliberately targeted and that there were no military installations in the immediate vicinity.

The Starobelsk crime is mentioned in later Western reports, but only in the briefest and most vague form – and in such a way that it is presented as a Russian government claim that “cannot be verified.” The Western reports emphasize the denials of the Kiev regime.

Recently, Russia, as announced, carried out massive airstrikes on Kyiv and other Ukrainian sites in retaliation for the “terrorist attack” in Starobelsk. Russia fired dozens of hypersonic and ballistic missiles, as well as hundreds of drones. The hypersonic missiles cannot be intercepted by NATO air defence systems, including the American Patriot system.

The Russian Defence Ministry stated that its attacks targeted only military centres, infrastructure, and NATO decision-making centres, and that all targets had been hit. Russia emphasized that it did not attack civilians.

A BBC report is typical of the Western media norm. On June 2nd, the British public broadcaster ran the headline: “Ukrainian rescue workers recover bodies from rubble after Russian attacks that killed 22 people.”

The BBC and other Western media reported in graphic detail about people who were rescued from the rubble in Kyiv, Dnipro (Dnepropetrovsk) and elsewhere.

Western media outlets quote the Ukrainian authorities’ figures on deaths and injuries without comment. The numbers are treated as fact.

The claims of the Ukrainian regime that residential buildings were deliberately hit by Russian missiles are also adopted.

It was not questioned that the residential buildings may have been hit by Ukrainian surface-to-air missiles, which are incapable of intercepting Russian hypersonic weapons and therefore must land somewhere. It would not be the first time that Ukrainian surface-to-air missiles have missed their target and hit friendly buildings, resulting in civilian casualties.

Furthermore, the BBC and other Western media reported on the Russian attacks without mentioning the crucial background: that it was a reprisal in response to the crime in Starobelsk.

Where the BBC briefly mentioned this, it said: “The Kremlin said on Tuesday [June 2] that it was carrying out the ‘systematic attacks’ it had announced after blaming [Ukraine] for a deadly attack on a student dormitory in an occupied part of eastern Ukraine at the end of May.”

Several aspects are striking about this double standard in reporting. The Russian attacks on Ukraine and their consequences are described in detail, with numerous condemnations of the Ukrainian regime for “Russian terrorism.” Meanwhile, the massacre of 21 teenage students in Starobelsk (disparagingly referred to as “Russian-occupied” territory) was largely ignored or misrepresented as not being a crime.

It is remarkable that the reported casualty figures are similar – and yet the dead at the Russian university are dismissed with a few sterile sentences, while those in Ukraine make top reports and headlines.

But this double standard in reporting is not merely bad journalism. It is proof of the Western propaganda system, which distorts the conflict, devalues and dehumanizes victims, and attempts to brand one side as the absolute villain – even though, in reality, the side championed by the West is the one that most closely fits the definition of criminal terrorism.

The final revelation is that the Western “victim” regime is attempting to blow up Europe with a nuclear catastrophe – financed by the EU and NATO and using their weapons. And the Western media remain silent. Because reporting on it would expose NATO’s war agenda and its propaganda system of war lies.
